Shauit is a unique and unparalleled singer-songwriter from Maliotenam in Northern Quebec. He writes in French, English, but most importantly in his aboriginal language (Innu). His dancehall pop-reggae songs are mature, honest and militant and speak of love, hope, the environment, peace and respect.
A long personal journey led him to release his first independent EP, only in Innu, entitled Shapatesh nuna, in 2004, which sold over 2,500 copies. He was subsequently invited to 300 concerts and festivals across Canada and Europe. Shauit sang for Her Majesty the Queen and Prime Minister Stephen Harper on Canada Day 2010. This show drew more than 70,000 people to Parliament Hill and 1,772,000 people watched or listened to it online, on TV and on the radio. The Governor General especially enjoyed the cover of a Haitian Creole song he performed at another event.
He’s the only one on Earth doing that he does, and he’s brilliant at it! One Love.
