Histoire d'amour

Bouchardanse Company

This performance by a Toronto-based dance theatre trio takes inspiration from our insatiable need to know and understand love.  Histoire d’amour is a touching and playful portrayal of lovers in timeless pursuit of each other and a study of the ethereal and inescapable power of love and desire.

The story centres around the romance of two lovers as they journey through the ages, ever seeking the other.  With sections choreographed by Julia Aplin, Susie Burpee, LouisMartin Charest, Denise Fujiwara, Louis Laberge-Côté and Sylvie Bouchard, Histoire d’amour captures a range of artistic perspectives.  Each choreographer takes inspiration from a particular historical era to create his or her segment of the work - not with the intention of recreating that period, but of referring to it in order to highlight the particular modes of affection of that time.

Histoire d’amour charms its audience with its originality, straddling dance and theatre, with an actor narrating the story while two dancers embody it, creating an engaging, multi-sensorial experience - a perfect balance of the two forms of expression.  For anyone unacquainted with dance shows, this performance is a gentle introduction.

This show is part of our English Friendly selection, meaning that our anglophone audience is encouraged to attend it. Dance knows no language barriers, and Histoire d'amour will convey to all the universal feelings around the experience of love.
